A guide to understanding our icons

08 Nov

If you have come across an icon on our website or product and have wondered what it represents, then you’re in the right place because we’re here to explain them. Our icons are designed to simplify information to help you identify key features such as ATEX certified and low vibration tools quickly, so once you know what they mean, searching for what you need will be easy.

We’ll explain each icon and break down what they stand for and how they can help you.

EX – ATEX Certified

The ‘EX’ symbol stands for atmospheres explosible, which is referred to as ATEX.
ATEX is a directive that outlines various technical and quality objectives that must be met to satisfy a third-party certification organisation.

Defining potentially explosive environments

A potentially explosive atmosphere exists when a mixture of air, gases, vapours, mists or dusts combines in a way that can ignite under certain conditions. Understanding these combinations is crucial for safety in various environments, especially in industries such as manufacturing and construction.

Using ATEX certified equipment

Our ATEX certified tool range consists of specially developed versions of our VL Needle and Chisel Scalers, SF range of Handheld Scaling Hammers and Walk Behind Deck Hammer. This equipment is intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, including those used on fixed offshore platforms, petrochemical plants, mines and flour mills, among others.

Safety is at our core, offering the lowest vibration, dust control and drop protection across our product range.

Trelawny ATEX certification

To achieve ATEX certification for our products, Trelawny Ex tools undergo rigorous independent testing conducted by Element Materials Technology.

Vibro Lo – Low vibration system

Vibro Lo is short for low vibration system, this represents a solution which is designed to minimise vibration during operation. This innovative technology is extremely beneficial in environments where excessive vibration can lead to rapid equipment wear, material damage and operator discomfort.

When HAVS can occur

Those within the industry will be aware that permanent injury can be caused to the hands and arms from the vibrations generated by powered equipment.

Occasional exposure is unlikely to cause ill health, however regular and frequent exposure to Hand Arm Vibration (HAVS) needs to be managed to protect operators. As a committed and responsible manufacturer, we prioritise health and safety issues like these, integrating them into our design to ensure every product meets safety standards and safeguards the wellbeing of users.

Low vibration tools for health and safety compliance

Trelawny designs with health and safety in mind for each tool and machine. We have developed a particular range of reduced vibration pneumatic hand tools, under our trademark Vibro-Lo™ to help protect the user from injury.

Using our low vibration tools

We equip our machines with a dead man’s handle for safety and our motor controls feature both zero volt and thermal overload protection for optimal performance and protection against overheating. With these safety precautions, our equipment counteracts the hazards of HAVS and stands at the forefront of the market with world-leading designs.

H – Non spark

In industries such as nuclear and steel preparation, Trelawny tools will often be used to carry out projects in hazardous and flammable environments.

Defining potentially spark-inducing environments

A potentially spark-inducing environment refers to one where flammable gases, vapours, dust or other combustible materials are present, creating a high risk of ignition from the smallest of sparks.

Spark-resistant materials for safe, strong tools

We manufacture spark-resistant copper beryllium needles and cutter heads. This metal combines high strength with non-magnetic and non-sparking qualities to deliver a safe yet efficient execution of the task at hand.

Using non-spark equipment

Our non-spark tool range includes Pneumatic Long Reach Strippers, Needle Scalers and Chisel Scalers.

TVS – Compatible with Trelawny Vacuum Systems

TVS stands for Trelawny Vacuum Systems which provides dust control, which is critical for protecting health, ensuring compliance, improving work quality and maintaining a safe and clean working environment.

Using our TVS equipment

Our tools and machines are designed to strip away surface coatings, which results in dust being released into the atmosphere. To solve this issue, we provide dust shrouds for all our equipment, which, when connected with our vacuum dust collectors, effectively remove dry dust and debris.

Recovering hazardous and non-hazardous materials

Our Tool and Vacuum System (TVS®) range of products are meticulously engineered to ensure the extraction of lead-based paint, radioactive contaminants and other hazardous and non-hazardous materials directly from the surface preparation equipment and hand tools.
