How to use Long Reach Scalers

26 Feb

Long reach tools are pneumatic (driven by compressed air) percussive tools that use a hammer action to break, chip and scrape materials from a range of surfaces, including concrete, steel and wood. They are available with an array of attachments which makes these very versatile machines.

Long reach tools are available in two variants, the standard steel construction and the lightweight ‘lite’ aluminium version, which is 35% lighter than its steel counterpart. The aluminium version is specifically designed for applications that require operators to work in hard-to-reach areas and vertical or overhead surfaces.

The tools have very low air consumption, requiring only a small portable compressor 4.5 CFM for operation. While pneumatic tools do require a compressor, a compact plug-in wall compressor is more than sufficient to power the tools.

Helpful tips

When using the pneumatic Long Reach Stripper, choose the ‘Long Reach LITE’ option for improved operator comfort when working at heights. Let the tool do the work – applying excessive pressure on the head can prevent full extension, potentially stalling the tool and reducing performance.
